Automated External Defibrillators (AEDS)

Automated External Defibrillators (AEDS) are proven lifesavers; they are very easy to operate and can be used even if you haven’t received any training. If you have a defibrillator in your workplace, we will support you by providing your staff with the knowledge and the confidence to act quickly, which might just save a life.

Automated External Defibrillation (AED) is well established as the only effective therapy for cardiac arrest. The scientific evidence to support early defibrillation is overwhelming, the single most determinant of survival being the delay from collapse to delivery of the first shock. The chances of successful defibrillation decline at a rate of 7-10% with each minute. Basic life support may help to sustain a shockable rhythm but is not a definitive treatment.

We offer a comprehensive Automated External Defibrillation (AED) session based on the necessary theory, backed up with practical exercises. The session is run over half a day, is informative and enjoyable and allows the students to gain confidence in what is a new and possibly somewhat daunting skill.

In addition to training, we can offer recommendations in areas such as company protocols, purchasing equipment and on-going help and support with training and development.

Course Outline

  • Basic Life Support (CPR Recap)

Here we revisit the fundamentals of Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), focusing on chest compressions and rescue breaths. Participants refresh their knowledge on proper techniques to sustain circulation and oxygenation in cardiac arrest situations.

  • Chain of Survival

Learn the crucial steps in responding to cardiac emergencies, outlining the sequential actions needed for optimal outcomes. It highlights early recognition, prompt activation of emergency services, CPR, defibrillation, and advanced care to improve the chances of survival.

  • About the AED and Theory

In this section, you learn about Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) – their components, functionality, and importance in cardiac arrest management. Theoretical knowledge encompasses understanding cardiac rhythms, AED operation, safety precautions, and the rationale behind their use.

  • AED Demonstration:

This section offers a hands-on demonstration of AED usage, providing practical insights into operating the device effectively and efficiently. Gain confidence in identifying when and how to deploy an AED, understanding its prompts, and performing necessary actions in a simulated cardiac arrest scenario.

  • Practical AED Workshop:

Through interactive exercises, participants engage in practical scenarios involving AED deployment on manikins or simulated patients. This workshop enables them to apply theoretical knowledge and demonstrate proficiency in using AEDs, reinforcing skills necessary for real-life emergency response.

To ensure all learners are reached, we use a variety of training methods including scenario-based training techniques which maximises recall. Through continual assessment, each delegate will receive a certificate of attendance.
