- WORKPLACE HEALTH & SAFETY
This unit focuses on instilling an understanding of workplace health and safety responsibilities. Barbers will learn how to identify and reduce risks to health and safety, ensuring a safe working environment for both themselves and their clients.
- PERSONAL PROFESSIONAL
In this unit, barbers will develop skills to create a positive and professional image. Emphasis is placed on building a good rapport with customers, presenting oneself in a positive manner, and representing the organisation effectively.
- CONSULTATION TECHNIQUES
Barbers will learn effective communication and consultation techniques to better understand clients' needs and preferences. This unit covers the art of providing professional advice and conducting consultations to ensure customer satisfaction.
- HAIR WASHING & HYGIENE
Focusing on maintaining cleanliness and hygiene, this unit covers proper hair washing techniques and preventative maintenance for the scalp. Barbers will learn the importance of hygiene in the context of hair care.
- BARBERING TECHNIQUES
This unit teaches the safe and skilled cutting of hair using barbering techniques. Barbers will acquire knowledge of various cutting styles and methods, ensuring precision and client satisfaction while maintaining safety standards.
- HAIR FINISHING TECHNIQUES:
Building on haircutting skills, this unit concentrates on the art of drying and finishing men's hair to a high standard. Barbers will learn techniques to give the final touch to a haircut, creating a polished and well-presented appearance.
- HAIR DYING & COLOURING
Barbers will delve into the world of hair colouring, learning different methods and techniques to change men's hair colour. This unit covers the safe application of hair dye and the artistic aspects of colouring.
- OPEN BLADE SHAVING TECHNIQUES
While not part of the NVQ, this unit covers razor work and shaving techniques. Barbers will learn the art of open blade shaving, enhancing their skills in providing a clean and precise shave for clients who prefer a smooth finish.
NVQs are structured on a unit basis, enabling candidates to accrue credits for individual units or progress towards obtaining the complete award. Upon successfully concluding the course, you will attain an NVQ Level 2 certification accredited by the awarding body VTCT.
